A stimulating three-day workshop for singers and
a unique performance opportunity presented in a spirit of celebration.

Spring Choral Fest is an annual celebration of music that brings together over 100 choir members, teachers and conductors from communities all over New Brunswick and around the Maritimes to perform a major choral work under one of Canada’s leading conductors.

came to Halifax in 1981 to Head the Music Education wing of the Dalhousie University Department of Music. He earned his BMusic from McGill University in Composition and a First Class Teaching Diploma with organ as his main instrument. His MMusEd degree with a Kodaly Emphasis was earned from Holy Names College in Oakland, CA, having spent a year in Hungary studying the Kodaly Method. He and his wife, Margaret Tse have written 10 radio music education series (426 programmes in all) in English and in French for the Québec Ministère de l'Education which were broadcast on the Québec CBC and Radio-Canada networks from 1969 to 1981. During this time he composed and arranged many songs for children at the elementary level. While in Montreal, Professor Perron taught music theory at McGill and was asked to write a Modular Course in Ear Training which he subsequently used in his solfège classes at Dalhousie. Prof. Perron recently received honorary membership in IKS, the International Kodaly Society, for his work promoting the Kodaly Educational and Choral Method in Canada and abroad. Pierre has been a strong supporter of choral music and has conducted several choirs since he arrived in Halifax in 1981 to head the Music Education Department at Dalhousie University. He has brought his choirs to New York five times since 2001 and had his Carnegie Hall conducting debut in 2004 with Scott Macmillan's Celtic Mass for the Sea. In 2006, he founded the Festival Singers of Halifax who have since performed Handel's Ode to Saint Cecilia, Bach's Magnificat and Kodaly's Missa Brevis. He is also an active church musician and was organist and choir conductor at Bethany United, St. Mary's Basilica and is presently at Fort Massey United Church in Halifax. He is delighted to be invited to conduct this year's NBCF Choral Fest April 9-10-11 in Moncton. Along with Handel's "Dettingen" Te Deum, he is planning to present several Acadian folk songs, a cappella and with piano accompaniment.

Shawn Potter, Accompanist, is a fourth-year Bachelor of Music student at Mount Allison University, Choir Director of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Sackville, and a student of organ and choral conducting. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards for academic an musical achievement, including the 2009 NBCF Youth Achievement Award for service to New Brunswick’s choral community. He was New Brunswick’s tenor representative to the National Youth Choir in 2008, tenor soloist at Spring Choral Fest 2008 and will represent New Brunswick in the 2010 NYC. Shawn was a member of and accompanist for the 2009 New Brunswick Youth Choir.
