During his distinguished career Neil Michaud brought
choral music to hundreds of people and his choirs have
been the ambassadors of the University of Moncton, New
Brunswick and Acadia. He led his choirs in over 450
concerts during a career in Acadia, Quebec, Canada, the
United States, France, England and Romania and can be
considered the real father of choral singing in Acadia.
His choirs have been the recipient of many awards
including Lincoln Trophy, a symbol of excellence
in amateur choral singing in Canada. A Member of the Order of Canada, Neil
Michaud has the distinction of being the founding
director of the Department of Music at the University
of Moncton which honoured him in 1997 with the title
of Professor
Emeritus. The
reason he was nominated for the 2010 Distinguished
Service award may be summed up in a statement he once
made: “Quiconque peut parler, peut chanter ! Je l'ai
vu, je l'ai prouvé, je l'ai réalisé” (“Whoever can
speak, can sing! I’ve seen it, I’ve proved it, I’ve
brought it about.”)
